Kane makes KHL debut in Belarus
Evander Kane’s Kontinental Hockey League adventure now has its first official chapter.
The Winnipeg Jet sniper made his KHL debut with Dinamo Minsk Tuesday night in Belarus, totalling 17 shifts in a 2-1 loss to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in front of 15,056 fans.
Kane, wearing jersey No. 98, totalled 16 minutes and one second of ice time for Dinamo, fired six shots, took one roughing penalty and was one for two in the faceoff circle.
Kane has joined former Jet teammate Tim Stapleton in Minsk and played Tuesday night against another face familiar to Winnipeg hockey fans in defenceman Mark Flood, now a member of Lokomotiv.
And if Kane thought he’d enjoy anonymity in the KHL, he quickly discovered otherwise. Using his Twitter account, he tweeted this upon arrival in Minsk on Monday: "Landed in Minsk to a large amount media. They love their hockey here. Can't wait to play!!"
