Leafs goalie takes to the ice with locked-out Jets

WINNIPEG - Another fresh face joined the local locked-out Winnipeg Jets and other pros this morning at the MTS Iceplex.

Toronto Maple Leafs No. 1 goalie James Reimer was on the ice this morning.

The 24-year-old from Morweena, Man., said he thought he should take advantage of the chance to skate while he's in the area.

"It's just temporary," Reimer said this morning. "We've got a little extra time on our hands so I thought I'd come visit my folks.

"I don't get to see them too much, especially at this time of year.

"And I know Laddie (Jets captain Andrew Ladd) a little bit, so that why I came to skate with the guys.

"The home cooking's good but I'd rather be playing, that's for sure."

All NHL exhibition games have been canceled by the league while the lockout continues.

Regular-season games, which begin Oct. 11, are likely in jeopardy if a new labour deal isn't done within a few days.

"We want to play, that's the bottom line. It sucks to be out. It's too bad it's looking like games will be cancelled but at the same time you try to remain hopeful that we can get things done.

"When it comes down to it, we trust in Donald Fehr and all the NHLPA staff and hopefully we can come to an agreement."
