It’s not the way Patrice Cormier wanted to ring in the New Year.

The Winnipeg Jets re-assigned the forward to the St. John’s IceCaps, the NHL club announced Sunday afternoon. Recalled from the AHL affiliate last Wednesday, the 21-year-old saw action in two games with the Jets, filling in for injured centre Jim Slater.

Cormier skated on the fourth line with Eric Fehr and Chris Thorburn and registered no points. He was effective in the face-off circle, though, winning all 12 of his draws.

Slater, who has been dealing with a rib/oblique issue most of he week, had been feeling better over the last 48 hours and should be back in the lineup when the Jets travel to Quebec to take on the Montreal Canadiens Wednesday night.

Cormier has 13 points in 28 games with the IceCaps this season.

After closing out the 2011 calendar with a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday night, the Jets (19-14-5) enjoyed a day-off from the rink Sunday.
