Slater back on ice, ready to go
WINNIPEG - Jets centre Jim Slater was back on the ice with his teammates this morning, good news for the NHL club heading out this afternoon on a seven-game road trip.
Slater is the team's leading goal-scorer with three to this point. He missed Monday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers after being run over late Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes. As he was falling, he took a knee to the head, compressing his head and his neck, which was a concern given that he missed half of last season with a concussion.
Slater said he woke up Sunday and felt fine, but that the team was extra cautious given his history.
The Jets being the journey Thursday night in Philadelphia.
Also today, the Jets said that right-winger Eric Fehr will be accompanying them on the road trip. Fehr has not yet been cleared for contact after off-season shoulder surgery, but has been skating with his teammates as his rehabilitation progresses.
Winnipeg, 2-5-1, hasn't won on the road yet this NHL season.
