Big Apple doc patches up Slater's hip

  • Print

TORONTO -- Winnipeg Jets centre Jim Slater has undergone surgery to repair a damaged hip, GM Kevin Cheveldayoff announced Friday.

The team released a statement which said:

"Jim Slater underwent successful hip labrum surgery yesterday to repair an issue that was diagnosed following the season.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly at the The Hip Preservation Center in New York. It is anticipated Jim will make a full recovery in time for training camp in September."

Slater has had multiple injury troubles recently. He's been a full-time-available player in just one of the last four seasons.

In 2013-14, he played only 27 games for the Jets, missing the majority of the season due to sports hernia surgery.

Slater had just one goal and one assist in the season just ended.
