2012 DRAFT CLASS
NAME ROUND/OVERALL POSITION TEAM
Jacob Trouba1/9 D U of Michigan
The Jets' headliner from last June has already established himself as part of a solid defensive corps. Just 18, he has six points (2-4-6) in six games for the CCHA team. Trouba was forced to miss a game last weekend, suspended for an illegal hit to an opponent's head in the previous game. He will be a leader for Team USA at the upcoming World Junior.
Lukas Sutter 2/39 C Saskatoon (WHL)
His stats appear downright grim so far; just two goals and three points in 17 games, and a minus-12 (nobody on his team was worse). Those numbers pale in comparison to 28 goals and 59 points last season and a healthy plus-15. Sutter's Blades have a losing record so far, also surprising. Sutter was left off the roster for the upcoming Subway Super Series roster, and he has very few weeks left to make a case for inclusion to the Team Canada tryout camp for the World Junior.
Scott Kosmachuk 3/70 RW Guelph (OHL)
The Toronto native, just 18, is off to a great start for the Storm with 12 goals and 23 points in 19 games. He's a third-year player who's plus and producing.
Connor Hellebuyck 5/130 G UMass-Lowell
The 19-year-old freshman has played just one Hockey East game, a loss, for the Riverhawks. Junior Doug Carr is the team's No. 1 goalie. Among several Jets' long-term goalie projects.
Ryan Olsen 6/160 C Kelowna (WHL)
The centre, just 18, is in his third WHL season and has put up seven goals and 10 points in the first 16 games. He was traded to Kelowna on WHL draft day last spring.
Jamie Phillips7/190 G Michigan Tech U
The 19-year-old freshman has played just 18 minutes in his team's first eight WCHA games, as third man on the goalie totem pole.
2011 DRAFT CLASS
NAME ROUND/OVERALL POSITION TEAM
Mark Scheifele 1/7 C Barrie (OHL)
He is the only name on the Jets' list of junior players who could be invited to NHL camp, if it ever comes, for a delayed season. Is off to a fine start with 12 goals and 28 points in 17 games so far -- fourth in OHL scoring -- is a plus-10 and his Colts are the Central Division leaders to this point. Has pleased Winnipeg brass with leadership contributions on and off the ice.
Adam Lowry 3/67 LW Swift Current (WHL)
Having missed half of last season because of injury, Lowry, now listed at six-foot-five, 201 pounds, is making noise this season. Has nine goals and 23 points through 21 games and is playing centre, instead of his natural left wing. Will play in the upcoming Super Series vs. Russia.
Brennan Serville 3/78 D U of Michigan
The sophomore blue-liner, a teammate of Jacob Trouba's, is pointless through five NCAA games so far. He missed a pair of games last weekend with what the team called a "facial concussion" but is likely to be back soon. Just 19, Serville will be given ample time to develop.
Zach Yuen 4/119 D Tri-City (WHL)
Yuen doesn't turn 20 until March and has posted a goal and 11 points in the first 20 games this season. A plus-45 last season, Yuen is plus-three this season but now has a smaller role on a team that's not as offensive as it used to be.
Austen Brassard 5/149 RW Belleville (OHL)
Brassard, who turns 20 in January, is in his fourth OHL season and is playing on the Bulls' top line most of the time. He has started with five goals and just six points in the first 16 games. He tallied 27 goals and 51 in 64 regular-season games a year ago.
Jason Kasdorf 6/157 G RPI
The 20-year-old Winnipegger is one of three goalies with the Engineers this season and has played just one period in the team's six games so far. Another of the longer-term goalie projects.
Aaron Harstad 7/187 D Colorado College
The 20-year-old sophomore has a goal and four points through eight games this WCHA season. He had a fine start to his college career and his role is increasing.
ST. JOHN'S ICECAPS
NAME YEARS PRO POSITION
Alexander Burmistrov 3 C
Has two goals and seven points in 12 games so far, which leads a team that is not scoring much. Not lighting it up; finding out, as most young players do, the AHL is not as easy as they expect.
Patrice Cormier 3 RW
Injury has limited Cormier to just three games so far this season. He's a forward who should be knocking on the NHL door soon.
Paul Postma 4 D
After signing a one-way NHL deal, Postma has agreed to play during the lockout in the AHL. Was hobbled by early injury but has returned to the lineup. In four games, he had one goal, an overtime winner last weekend.
Zach Redmond 2 D
Redmond had a strong AHL training camp and has played a key role for the IceCaps so far. He has tallied three goals and five points in 12 games.
Ivan Telegin Rookie C
The 20-year-old Russian, whose first North American season was last year with Scheifele in the OHL, has but one goal in 11 games to start the AHL campaign.
Spencer Machacek 5 RW
Machacek was noticeable in a Jets' uniform late last season and has re-signed in the organization. He has scored three goals and five points in 12 game so far for St. John's.
Carl Klingberg 2 LW
Klingberg hasn't scored since the opener and has missed four games due to injury.
Jason Gregoire 2 LW
In and out of the lineup, Gregoire has just one tally this season as he battles for an increased role.
