NHL Lockout update: FAQ
Only one more sleep until the expected opening of NHL training camps.
Q: Don't the Jets and the NHL know that I'm getting tired of waiting for the schedule and my season ticket info?
A: Yes, they're aware you're anxious. Today, then, could very well be a good day for you. Once the NHLPA ratifies the labour agreement (and that's expected without any glitches), the league will have a clear path to release the full 2013 schedule for all 30 teams. That's also likely to give the Jets their opening to communicate with all of their customers about tickets and the like, so don't take the weekend off if you're eager to have all that information.
Q: Will I be able to watch any of the Jets' training camp?
A: The answer to that is unknown at this point. Some NHL teams are opening their arenas for the training camp activities that will take place in the coming week. Some, like Buffalo and Phoenix, have already let it be known they'll be conducting intra-squad games and will have free parking and discounted concessions and other goodies available to fans for those events during the camp week. Asked on Friday, a Jets spokesman said the team hasn't made any decisions yet in that area but has ben discussing many options internally, including a possible public opening of the MTS Centre for some training camp activity. But that's not for sure, so stay tuned.
Q: Why is Mark Scheifele still playing in Barrie if he's coming to Winnipeg's camp?
A: Officially, no player transactions can take place in the NHL until the lockout is officially over. And the junior Canadian Hockey League clubs, we're told, have been assured that NHL teams will not recall eligible players inappropriately in advance of NHL training camps. So, until Thursday's 22nd goal of the OHL season, Scheifele was doing was was required of him and continued to play well for the Colts. He did not play Friday night in Guelph, held out by Colts head coach Dale Hawerchuk due to post-world junior fatigue.
