Jets-Sabres game stars

Free Press ★★★

★ ONDREJ PAVELEC, G, Wpg.: Made the critical saves at critical moments in one-goal hockey game. The kind of ‘A’ game this squad needs most nights to win.

★★ BLAKE WHEELER, RW, Wpg.: Didn’t register a point, but was absolutely dominant. Just like Pavelec, the Jets need more of this kind of handiwork.

★★★ RYAN MILLER, G, Buff.: Could have easily been a Jet sweep here with a number of other possible candidates. But Miller, especially through the first 40 minutes, kept his teammates in a game they looked all too willing to give away.

NEW-LOOK PP? The Jets had just one power-play chance overall and it came early in the game. But they trotted out a new look with Olli Jokinen on the point and Dustin Byfuglien stationed in front of the net. "We thought it hasn’t been clicking that much but Buff was a really good player in front of the net when he was in Chicago," said Jets head coach Claude Noel. "He’s a big man that’s hard to see around. He makes the goalie work and really give you some grief. We need to practise it a little bit more, but I think it’s got some potential."

SHUFFLE THIS: The Jets made one lineup change, inserting Grant Clitsome for Zach Redmond. Clitsome played 20 minutes and six seconds and was +1.
