HIGHLIGHT REEL Flames 5 / Jets 3

AT SCOTIABANK SADDLEDOME

Big picture

It's going to be an anxious five days for the Jets. They dropped both road games in Western Canada this week and now don't play until Wednesday. Winnipeg is in ninth in the Eastern Conference this morning, tied with eighth-place Washington at 72 points but that picture is almost certainly going to be different come the middle of next week.

Little picture

Winnipeg utterly failed at penalty killing on Friday night, zero for three. It didn't help that they were afforded just one power play in the game's first 45 minutes, after 45:56, After a 3-0 hole in the first 13 minutes, it was too big a hill to climb, though Evander Kane, Blake Wheeler and Tobias Enstrom provided some Winnipeg scoring to keep the Flames on their toes.

Game-breaker

Alex Tanguay's high-skill goal, the only marker of the second period to make it 4-2, really put a halt to Jets momentum and consistent pressure. After that, Winnipeg didn't really push with enough force or for any sustained lengths of time until it was too late.
