The big picture
Another full house, another night when downtown Winnipeg is alive. Forget the score for a moment because Saturday night was more about putting the finishing touches on what was a sensational return of the NHL to our burg. And like every other night this season, MTS Centre was alive and the fans were just as much the story as the game itself.
The little picture
OK, now that we've served up a healthy dose of schmaltz, the goods on the Jets, Coles-Notes version: Fell behind -- again -- and registered just three shots in the first period. Too many defensive breakdowns cost this team Saturday night, just as it has many times this season.
Game breaker
Teddy Purcell's third of the night came 68 seconds into OT, killing any notion of a dream ending in the final game.
Free Press Three Stars
First star:
Teddy Purcell, F, Tampa: Opportunistic against an occasionally porous Jet defence
Second star:
Steven Stamkos, F, Tampa: Potted his 60th of the season and, if not for the solid work of Ondrej Pavelec, could have had 61 or 62.
Third star: Jim Slater, C, Winnipeg: Heart and soul guy scores twice, including the tying goal with 53 seconds left.
