Jets players take to Twitter
If you follow Jim Slater on Twitter, you may want to make sure you haven't just had a good meal before you log in.
The Winnipeg Jets centre recently posted a Twitpic of a gaping wound on his leg, courtesy of an opponent's skate, with the following Tweet: Skate to the leg. No harm just stitches if you can handle it take a look. Not your everyday hockey wound.
It's pretty gross but in this age of giving people immediately what they want - and nowhere is that more true than in Winnipeg with the Jets - it's pretty much par for the course.
Slater is one of a growing number of Jets players to take to Twitter to interact with fans and friends and keep up-to-date on their favourite people.
(Not all of them embraced the social media network for their own benefit. Forward Evander Kane admits his sister convinced him to start an account a few years ago so she could follow bubblegum pop star, Justin Bieber. Kane has since "unfollowed" him but Bieber's manager follows Kane.) Some Tweet more than others, too. Bryan Little, for example, last took to Twitter over a year ago when the team was still called the Atlanta Thrashers.
In a dressing room full of competitive people, it's no surprise that the Twitterers all know how many followers they have. None of them, as of yet, follow Jetcetera's Geoff Kirbyson.
