It’s a good thing Sophie Riel wasn’t allowed anywhere near the skate sharpening machine last week.
The 10-year-old ringette player was so excited to be the Toyota Trainer For a Day before the Winnipeg Jets game against the New York Rangers that she could barely contain herself.
"It was awesome," she said. "The pucks were flying at me, it was so cool!"
(Even though she possessed the invincibility of most 10-year-olds, Sophie was required to wear a helmet on the bench.)
The highlight of this promotional venture with Toyota’s local dealers is visiting the team’s dressing room, sitting on the players’ bench during the warm-up and knocking over a pyramid of pucks on to the ice.
