Jets beer down to the last drops
Winnipeg Jets fans continue to show their unquenchable thirst for anything associated with their favourite team.
The latest example is Budweisers’ fan brew, a limited edition beer made with water taken from Winnipeg landmarks such as the MTS Centre and The Forks.
Only 24,000 12-packs of the fan brew were produced and they’ve been flying off liquor store and vendor shelves over the past 10 days.
"We’ve sold about 90 per cent of the inventory, which is significantly quicker than we had expected," said Dan Chubey, district sales manager of Labatt Breweries of Canada.
The special beer has also been available in about 30 bars and restaurants around Winnipeg, including Tavern United, Boston Pizza and the Pony Corral.
Some fans are drinking the beer, others are treating it like a collectors item, Chubey said.
"I’ve seen guys posting a 12-pack on eBay for $600, including the (authenticity) certificates. One guy was throwing in a T-shirt he won in a bar," he said.
Many fans weren’t prepared to take any chances on being left thirsty when it first came out.
"We had customers who were waiting at the (beer) stores prior to them opening to make sure they could get their hands on a case. The response has been phenomenal but not surprising considering the energy Winnipeg fans have for anything Jets," he said.
