Jets expect Pavs to stay in sick bay, Montoya to start
OTTAWA -- The Winnipeg Jets were without their No. 1 goalie Friday as they prepared for today's game against the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Place (1 p.m., CBC, TSN 1290).
Though he was on their flight to Ottawa, Ondrej Pavelec had flu-like symptoms and did not practise with the team Friday.
Jets coach Claude Noel didn't seem that confident that Pavelec would be available today.
"We determined it was best to keep him away from the team," Noel said.
"He was on the flight. But he did not look good."
That's likely to mean Al Montoya will see his second start today.
"We'll wait and see but that possibly could happen," Noel said.
The coach was asked what level of concern he has with Pavelec's start this season. His goals-against average is 3.28, his save percentage is .885 and his record is 3-5-1.
"Well Pavelec has had some streaks where he's been good and others where he's been probably so-so," Noel said. "I think you get that not only in his game and in the whole team game. Others have been the same. It's kind of hot and cold. I don't think he's alone."
