Jets have to get their hands dirty, score the greasy goals
MONTREAL -- The Winnipeg Jets aren't going to transform into an offensive juggernaut with the wave of a magic wand.
They are exactly as advertised since the day they came north from Atlanta: a goal-challenged outfit.
That said, there is a method -- both coaches and players agree -- for them to be far more productive than they have been:
By going to the net to get dirty, greasy goals.
"Lots of teams -- especially with a young team like this -- go through stretches like this," said goaltender Chris Mason. "That's where the little things become paramount: getting pucks out, you can't afford to give teams freebies. And the thing that gets you out of that, you've got to keep plugging. You've got to go to the net.
"I think we have to be a little harder going to the net, trying to get the dirty, road goals. In my experience that's how you get out of it: just go to the net and don't look for the pretty ones and try to bang them in."
