ON THE SLIDE:

In the last two weeks, the Jets have lost five damaging games that has dampened enthusiasm considerably about the playoff picture.

But the standings show that the team has slid just two points off the mark where it was on Nov. 24. Then, Winnipeg was eight points out of a Western Conference playoff spot. After Tuesday's loss in Buffalo, the Jets were 10 back of eighth-place Minnesota.

ON THE SIDE:

Scratched for the Jets on Tuesday were centre James Wright, who had the flu, defenceman Keaton Ellerby for the third straight game, and left-winger Anthony Peluso, who was serving Game No. 2 of his three-game suspension for boarding Dallas's Alex Goligoski last Saturday.

Wright's illness opened the door for centre Eric O'Dell to play his first NHL game. O'Dell is the St. John's IceCaps' leading scorer so far this season.

UP NEXT:

The Jets are home for one game, Friday against the Florida Panthers. (7 p.m., TSN Jets, TSN 1290).
