Jets 2 at Panthers 5, Dec. 5, 2013

Free Press ★★★

★ Tim Thomas, goalie, Panthers: Didn’t exactly face relentless pressure from the Jets, but was there on those rare occasions his club needed him.

★★ Tomas Fleischmann, forward, Panthers: The veteran Czech was opportunistic around the net, scoring his fourth goal and picking up a helper.

★★★ Erik Gudbranson, defenceman, Panthers: The 21-year-old, the third-overall pick in 2010, played a man’s game Thursday. Threw his weight around and added a goal and an assist.

THE Jets were without Michael Frolik Thursday night. The 25-year-old Czech was battling the flu and was pulled from the lineup. His spot was taken by Eric Tangradi, who moved onto the line with Mark Scheifele and Matt Halischuk.

TIM THOMAS recorded his 11,000th career save in the first period. He currently sits 14th among active NHL goaltenders in saves.

OLLI JOKINEN, who has played for seven NHL teams including the Jets, continues to light up his old clubs. Through five games against the Kings, Flames, Islanders, Rangers and Panthers the veteran Finn has collected five goals and two assists. Jokinen still ranks first among all-time Panthers in goals (188) and points (419).

FLORIDA defenceman Dylan Olsen scored his first NHL career goal and registered his first career multi-point game (1-1-2)... Scottie Upshall recorded his 100th career assist in the second period and, in the process, extended his point streak to a career-high of five games.

THE Jets exited for Tampa immediately after the game and face the Lightning Saturday (6 p.m., CBC/TSN 1290).
