Jets vs. Sharks game night

About the Sharks:

After opening the season at 8-0-1, the Sharks are winless in their last four and open a five-game road trip in Winnipeg having gone just 2-2-3 in their last seven games. If that sounds kind of familiar, it's probably because you're remembering how San Jose opened 7-0 last season only to follow it up with a ghastly 1-6-3 run.

Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi has started 15 of San Jose's 16 games so far this season, but has struggled of late, just like his team. Niemi posted a 9-1-1 record and 1.53 GAA in his first 11 games this season, but is just 0-1-3 and has a bloated 4.09 GAA in his last four games.

The general consensus in San Jose is their last game -- a 4-2 loss in San Jose to the Vancouver Canucks -- was their worst all-around effort of the season. And that makes them dangerous, Jets head coach Claude Noel said Saturday. "They're going to be coming in here probably a pretty unhappy group," said Noel. "They've hit a bump, but when you hit bumps, things get a little bit ornery. And I'm sure they'll be ornery here."

Despite the recent skid, the Sharks still have an enviable 10-2-4 record and were second in the Pacific Division behind only Anaheim heading into Saturday night -- and third in the Western Conference behind Anaheim and Colorado. And they have the league's top-ranked offence, averaging 3.62 goals per game and a plus-23 goals differential. WINNIPEG JETS
