WINNIPEG leading scorer Blake Wheeler was disappointed in a lot of ways Saturday and wasn't afraid to say so after the 4-1 loss to the Senators.
"No flow," Wheeler said. "It was a pretty bad game all around. I don't think we played with a whole lot of urgency.
"I think we hoped to be a little bit sharper than we were. That was the expectation going into today. It was a pretty ugly game out there."
There's going to be no time for self-pity. The Jets are right back at it Monday in Boston.
"I think we need to simplify things a little bit, get a more meat-and-potatoes kind of game, especially going onto the road," Wheeler said. "It's been well-documented last year how we did on the road. It's just going to take a little bit of a mentality going on the road and we have to make something happen here right away."
OPENING-NIGHT FLOP: Call it first-night nerves. Call it being over-hyped. But also call it the first loss of the Jets' season.
"The crowd was what we were expected," said Jets defender Grant Clitsome. "They were great. There was a lot of emotion for everyone. It's been so long since we played. It was jitters, excitement, everything all mixed into one.
"We have new guys on the roster, and even the guys that have been together for a long time haven't played together for awhile. We're trying to sort things out here.
"Claude (Noel) said after the game we've got to evaluate our performance, evaluate how we played, let it go and look forward to the next game. In a short season like this you can't dwell on stuff."
