First Period:

Pavelec was on his game Thursday night and started sharply. He looked to be seeing the puck, even through traffic, and made 16 saves in the period.

His best stuff was on Drew Shore from in tight around the seven-minute mark, then made a superb stop on Tomas Fleischmann later in the period.

Second Period:

Pavelec had another superb save early in the second when the Panthers went to the power play during Zach Redmond's double-minor for high-sticking, blocking Shore again. But when the power play went to a two-man advantage for 1:24, he was unable to see through teammate Ron Hainsey and Florida's Tomas Kopecky, parked right on the edge of the crease paint, and Brian Campbel's point blast got through them all into the back of the net.

Third Period:

Gave up a goal to Kris Versteeg at 3:35, but the slot shot was a near-impossible save as Versteeg charged the net and took Tomas Fleischmann's pass from behind the net. His teammates still took the lead twice, but Pavelec was unable to stem the tide, as Peter Mueller, Alex Kovalev and Jonathan Huberdeau scored within a five-minute stretch to push the Panthers to the win.

WHAT WE LIKED:

Pavelec was very, very good in the first two periods, when his team was not great. He gave them a chance to win this road game, having stopped 25 of 26 shots in the first two periods.

WHAT WE DIDN'T LIKE:

For all his acrobatics, Pavelec sometimes has trouble with rebounds, like many goalies. Thursday, he dropped a point shot from Filip Kuba right out of his glove and right to Peter Mueller for the 3-3 goal.

SYNOPSIS:

Pavelec showed his good and not-so-good sides on Thursday. Was into it over the first 40 minutes and created his team's opportunity to win. But in the third, he had a couple of errors that added to the snowball that rolled down the hill and right over his team. Four goals allowed in any period just isn't winning goaltending, however you slice it.
