Pens have gift for their fans

FAQ: lockout update

Q: Hearing that a few NHL teams are doing some major sucking up to their fans. Have the Jets got anything planned?

A: The first part is true. Many U.S.-based NHL teams are offering incentives to win back fans. In Pittsburgh it was announced fans will receive 50 per cent off merchandise at the team's first four games as well as vouchers for free food. Tampa is offering 200 season-ticket packages for $200 on a first come-first serve basis.

The L.A. Kings, meanwhile, announced they will be donating $1 million to the community.

But like most Canadian teams, the Jets have nothing planned at this point. They know their faithful will be back.

Q: Same question, again: Where's the bleepin' schedule?

A: Same answer, again: patience, people. The league won't release the 2013 schedule until the new CBA is ratified by the players. It's being done electronically and should be finished by Saturday morning.

Q: Keep hearing that Ilya Kovalchuk and Pavel Datsyuk are staying in Russia to play in Sunday's KHL All-Star Game? Is that what is keeping Nik Antropov and Alex Ponikarovsky from reporting to the Jets.

A: Nope. Neither player was named to the all-star lineup. But Tim Stapleton was. And so was Deron Quint, who the Jets' second-round pick from 1994 as well as Alexander Korolyuk, who played with the Moose in 1996-97.
