Goalie controversy?
THE play of Al Montoya Saturday -- he stepped in because Ondrej Pavelec was ill -- gives Claude Noel some options this week.
"That will be probably be a game-time decision on the goaltending but we have to feel pretty comfortable with what Al Montoya has done there," Noel said. "I certainly wouldn't be afraid to put him back in, if that's what you're asking."
30-minute man
D-MAN Ron Hainsey played a team-high 29 minutes and 32 seconds Saturday, pushing his average this season to 24:27.
"It's easier to play when you don't have time to think about what happened on the last shift," said Hainsey. "That makes it more enjoyable. If you happened to have made a mistake you get to go back out there relatively quickly."
PK boost
EVANDER Kane got just over two minutes of work on the team's penalty-kill unit on Saturday and his speed could make him a future fixture there as the Jets try to fix their short-handed woes.
"Kane hasn't had very much time on the penalty kill, but I think his speed is evident," said Noel. "He also can create off his speed once a puck gets out to the neutral zone, he gets himself into a position where, once he gets more comfortable, he might become a threat especially if he's with a (Alex) Burmistrov or whoever he's killing with. Sometimes you get that turnover and you find ways to spring loose and it really puts a power-play on edge.
"I think the addition of speed has helped us there. And for not having that role for some time with us I think he's done a really good job there."
Numbers game
The Jets killed all three Ottawa power plays on Saturday to boost their league-worst PK percentage to 66.7.
