ABOUT THE SABRES
- Sabres LW Thomas Vanek continues to eat up the NHL as he leads the league in scoring with 12 goals and 13 assists in 15 games. Five of his goals have come on the power play, but none -- as of yet -- has been a game-winner.
- Buffalo's top line of Vanek, centre Cody Hodgson and RW Jason Pominville has combined for 25 of the team's 45 goals.
- How's this for stability? Lindy Ruff was named Buffalo's head coach on July 21, 1997 and since then there have been 170 coaching changes in the NHL. Ruff is the second-longest tenured coach in the four major professional sports leagues. Only Gregg Popovich, who began coaching the San Antonio Spurs in 1996, has been head coach of his team longer.
