Related Items
Record: 25-11-5; 56 pts; first in Atlantic Division.
Notable:
Defenceman Paul Postma: Third among AHL defencemen with 29 points (7G, 22A) in 34 games. Headed to the AHL All-Star Game. The concern? He is a -8.
RW Spencer Machacek: The 23-year-old leads the IceCaps in scoring with 10 goals and 20 assists. A third-round Thrashers pick in '07.
D Zach Redmond: Also headed to the all-star game; team-best +10 and has chipped in with 17 points.
THE 2011 DRAFT PICKS
(Heading into Friday games)
C Mark Scheifele, Barrie Colts -- So much is expected of the Jets' first-round draft pick and, as a result, his game is under the microscope. Didn't dominate as some had hoped at the World Juniors -- he did have six points (3G, 3A) in six games -- and has 42 points (17G, 25A) in 27 games with the Colts. Some are already whispering he'd be best served with another year in the OHL in 2012-13.
LW Adam Lowry, Swift Current Broncos -- Had 37 points in 36 games with the Broncos but is now out with a shoulder injury.
D Brennan Serville, University of Michigan -- A freshman who has played in 24 games for the 15-9-4 Wolverines, with seven assists and a +8 rating.
D Zach Yuen, Tri-City Americans -- Having an excellent season: leads the WHL in plus/minus at +37 and has chipped in with six goals and 17 assists.
RW Austen Brassard, Belleville Bulls -- Has 23 goals and 17 assists for the Bulls; leads the team in goals and is second in points.
G Jason Kasdorf, Des Moines (USHL) -- Sports a 10-10-2 record including three shutouts, a 3.19 GAA and a .903 save percentage with a mediocre Des Moines team that has 13 wins this season. Committed to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for next season.
D Aaron Harstad, Colorado College -- Has appeared in 19 games with the Tigers this season, his first, and has three assists.
FOUR WORTH TRACKING
C Ivan Telegin, Barrie Colts -- The 2010 fourth-round draft pick played for Russia at the WJC and has 13 goals and 29 points in 25 OHL games.
G Fredrik Petterson-Wentzel -- Considered the best goaltender prospect in the Jets' system, Petterson-Wentzel is the No. 2 netminder for Farjestad of the Swedish Elite League and has appeared in 11 games this year with a 2.62 GAA and .900 save percentage).
D Will O'Neill, University of Maine -- This seventh-round pick from 2006 is a Black Bears' co-captain and has 18 points in 22 games.
D Cody Sol, Kitchener Rangers -- Something about this big dude's (6-6, 242) upside is intriguing. He has 21 points for the Rangers, is a +32 and has 131 penalty minutes.
