APRIL 2, 2012 -- Scored his 30th goal of the year, a career high, in a 5-4 OT win over Florida. Was the youngest 30-goal scorer in the NHL last year. Kane also ended the year as one of three NHL players with more than 250 shots and 150 hits: Winnipeg -- Evander Kane, (287 shots, 173 hits), Washington -- Alex Ovechkin, (303 shots, 215 hits), Colorado -- Gabriel Landeskog, (270 shots, 219 hits).

MAY 17, 2012 -- Kane scores once, but Canada falls 5-3 to Slovakia in the quarter-finals of the IIHF World Hockey Championship in Finland. Kane would score four goals, add three assists and is a plus-6 in eight games for Canada.

SEPT. 15, 2012 -- Kane signs a new six-year contract with the Jets worth $31.5 million.

KANE OFF ICE

AUG. 18, 2011 -- Hullabaloo erupts over Kane's desire to wear No. 9 with the Jets. Kane gets permission from Bobby Hull but many fans express outrage.

OCT. 26, 2011 -- Tradegate 1 sees Kane's agent Craig Oster refute trade demands after a business associate of the player sends a few provocative tweets to media.

OCT. 28, 2011 -- A number of Winnipeg restaurants report people representing Kane (not his agent or anyone associated with Newport Sports) offer Tweets from the player endorsing the restaurants in exchange for cash.

JAN. 19, 2012 -- Kane plays a game against the Buffalo Sabres but then misses seven straight with what the team reports as a concussion. The Jets point to a game on Dec. 20 against the New York Islanders as the source of the ailment. But fans in Winnipeg take to Twitter and blogs to suggest he suffered the injury in a bar fight. The Free Press attempts to verify the reports but no first-hand accounts are available.

JAN. 22, 2012 -- Kane retweets a picture of a sign held up at a Jets game in Ottawa. "Dear Evander: Please stop walking out on your bills. Sincerely, Winnipeg servers and restauranteurs."

Kane posted the picture on his Twitter account with the message, "Ha, Ha. What a complete lie this is but I really like the colours on the poster."

AUG. 24, 2012 -- Tradegate 2. CTV reporter Julie Stewart-Binks tweets the following: "According to inside sources, Evander Kane has asked for a trade from the Winnipeg Jets. Wants to be face of franchise... But Jets 2011 first overall pick Mark Schiefele (sic) will likely be the face of the franchise." The Jets deny the report.

DEC. 19, 2012 -- Kane tweets a picture of himself holding stacks of cash from a hotel balcony in Las Vegas and fans react strongly. Some lash out at his lack of sensitivity to those affected by the NHL lockout while others defend the 21-year-old's right to have a good time.

Kane reacts to most recent Twitter flap

-- "Some of the perceptions some people have, they obviously don't know me very well," said Kane. "I totally understand why some people maybe don't enjoy that tweet as much as others with what's going on. And maybe some people are more sensitive and I totally get that. But, at the same time, it's funny to me how I throw something out there as a joke and then I get all these tweets, many of them which I don't pay much attention to, which are racist. It's funny to me, if that person is so much more classy or responsible than you, they wouldn't say that. I've never made any comments towards anybody in a negative way. It is what it is. It's not the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last."

-- "I guarantee you if this was an NFL player or an NBA player or a celebrity like an actor, would this be a story? Probably not. If that's Roddy White in Atlanta posting that picture, does anybody care? But in the NHL there's a different mindset. I'm not talking about the NHL as a whole, just how people view it. I keep saying it: It was a joke and I'm sorry it was taken out of hand by some people."
