Johl Swendlo named player of the week

Johl Swendlo of the Central Plains Capitals has been named the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League’s Chicken Chef West division player of the week.

Swendlo, 16, scored the game-winning goal in the Capitals’ 4-3 victory on Sunday over Eastman Selects, recording a total of two goals and an assist in the outing. He recorded a pair of goals and an assist in the Capitals’ 5-4 loss to the Interlake Lightning last Saturday.

The honourable mention went to Duncan Campbell of the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Interlake Lightning goaltender Derek Davies is the DEKALB East division player of the week after he won all three games last week for his team. Davies, a 15-year-old rookie, posted a 2.59 goals against average and a save percentage of .910 in the three wins which included a 4-3 shootout victory over the Winnipeg Thrashers, a 5-4 win over the Central Plains Capitals and a 9-1 win over the Norman Northstars.

The honourable mention went to Kevin Pochuk of the Winnipeg Wild.
