Portage Terriers change divisions

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Portage Terriers will move to the Addison Division, from the Sher-Wood Division this fall.

League commissioner Kim Davis said the league agreed to the move at its annual general meeting held recently in Russell.

"The Terriers had requested the relocation, based on two things," said Davis. "The first was the significant travel cost savings, and the second was the potential revenue of having fans from the closer five Addison Division teams (Selkirk Steelers, Steinbach Pistons, Winkler Flyers, Winnipeg Saints and Winnipeg Blues), travelling to their home games."

In the Sher-Wood Division the Terriers opponents came from as far away as Dauphin (Kings), Neepawa (Natives), OCN (The Pas) Blizzard, Swan Valley (Stampeders) and Waywayseecappo (First Nation) Wolverines.

In other MJHL business: Davis’s contract was renewed for three more years; the league will play  approximately 100 games this season using four-man officials; the annual all star event has been postponed for this year, and a review will determine if it will be permanent; the The league’s showcase will be held at the MTS Iceplex on October 6-8; Winnipeg Saints will play their home games at the St. James Civic Centre.
