Winnipeg’s Shinnimin named CHL player of the week
Winnipeg’s Brendan Shinnimin, a centre with the Western Hockey League’s Tri-City Americans, is the Canadian Hockey League’s player of the week after he exploded for 19 points in four games last week.
Shinniman, the WHL’s scoring leader, recorded 11 goals and eight assists while recording a plus-nine rating helping to lead Tri-City to the top of the WHL’s Western conference.
Shinniman, 21, scored three goals and three assists last Tuesday for a career-high six-point game in a 7-2 win over the Everett Silvertips. Last Friday, Shinnimin had a hat-trick and an assist in a 4-2 win over the Silvertips. In Saturday’s 7-3 victory over the Spokane Chiefs, he had a goal and three assists. On (Sunday?)’s he had a career-high four-goal game and added an assist in a 5-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Shinnimin is in his fourth full WHL season with the Americans and sits atop the WHL scoring race with 115 points including 52 goals and 63 assists in 59 games.
The CHL includes the WHL, the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
