Alcock, Schutt each score twice as Frontenacs earn playoff berth
KINGSTON, Ont. - The Kingston Frontenacs have earned their way into the Ontario Hockey League playoffs on the last day of the regular season.
Cody Alcock and Samuel Schutt each scored two goals for Kingston as they defeated the visiting Ottawa 67's 5-1 on Sunday in OHL action.
The Frontenacs, who came into the day as the ninth-seeded team in the Eastern Conference, jumped ahead of the Peterborough Petes and idle Mississauga Steelheads for the seventh spot. Despite having the same amount of points as the Steelheads, Kingston will finish higher in the standings than Mississauga as it has one more victory. The Petes, who lost on Sunday to the Brampton Battalion, will finish ninth, one point out of the final playoff spot.
Billy Jenkins had a goal and an assist for the Frontenacs (27-35-6), who ended a three-game winless streak, while Warren Steele and Ryan Kujawinksi each chipped in with two assists.
Michal Cajkovsky scored the lone goal for the 67's (16-46-6), who dropped their fifth game in a row and finish the regular season as the last-place club in the OHL.
Mike Morrison made 23 saves for the win as Clint Windsor turned away 43-of-48 shots in a losing cause.
Kingston went 0 for 8 on the power play while Ottawa scored once on four chances with the man advantage.
The Frontenacs will meet the second-seeded Barrie Colts in the first round of the post season while the Steelheads will play the top ranked Belleville Bulls.
