Canada drops final game of world junior development camp to Czech Republic 5-2

  • Print

MONTREAL - David Pastrnak scored twice and added an assist while Miroslav Svoboda stopped 33 shots as the Czech Republic defeated Canada 5-2 at the world junior development camp on Friday.

David Kampf, Tomas Dvorak and Patrik Zdrahal also scored for the Czech Republic (1-2-0), which took advantage of Canada's lack of discipline to hand the homeside its first loss in four games.

The Czechs scored twice in the first period and less than a minute into the second before Connor McDavid responded for Canada (3-1-0) midway through the period. Bo Horvat also scored for the Canadians in the third after the Czechs made it 4-1.

Eric Comrie allowed four goals on 12 shots for Canada through 29:54 of play. Philippe Desrosiers tookover and turned aside 14-of-15 shots in relief.

The Czech Republic went 3 for 11 on the power play while Canada scored once on six chances with the man advantage. The Canadians racked up 79 minutes in penalties compared to just 22 for the Czechs. Brett Ritchie had 31 minutes in penalties for Canada — including a fighting major, instigator, and game misconduct when the final horn sounded to end the game.
