Canada West to face U.S. in Junior A hockey final
YARMOUTH, N.S. -- Canada West will defend its championship in the final of the World Junior A Hockey Challenge.
Seb Lloyd scored the lone goal as Canada West beat Canada East 1-0 in a semifinal Friday.
Canada West will face the United States in the final Sunday, after the Americans beat Switzerland 7-4 in the other semifinal.
Lloyd scored at 3:24 in the second period, while goaltender Jonah Imoo stopped 17 shots.
Charlie Finn made 23 saves in net for Canada East, which will play the Swiss for bronze today.
Earlier, Nicholas Schilkey and Vince Hinostroza scored two goals apiece for the U.S., which opened a 5-0 lead after the first period.
Alex Kile, Ryan Fitzgerald and Blake Heinrich also scored for the Americans, who will play for gold for the fourth time in five years.
Luca Fazzini, Robin Leone, Jan Neuenschwander, Christoph Bertschy scored for the Swiss, who had three goals in the third to attempt a late comeback.
Both teams needed two goaltenders. Michael Bitzer and Eamon McAdam combined to stop 32 shots for the U.S., while at the other end Melvin Nyffeler and Luca Boltshauser made a total of 31 saves.
