Derek Mathers scores two goals, two assists as Petes win 6-3 over Generals

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Derek Mathers scored two goals and two assists to lead the Peterborough Petes to a 6-3 win over the Oshawa Generals in Ontario Hockey League play Thursday.

Nick Ritchie added two goals for Peterborough (21-30-7), who also got singles from Nick Czinder and Stephen Pierog.

Matt Petgrave, Scott Laughton and Tyler Biggs replied for Oshawa (33-21-4).

The Generals scored the only two goals of the first period with Petgrave and Laughton connecting. The Petes did Oshawa one better in the second period, scoring all three of the period's goals from Pierog, Ritchie and Mathers.

Peterborough then scored three goals in 2:25 of the third period to put the game out of reach. Czinder opened the run with a power-play goal at 6:09 before Ritchie's second of the night made it 5-2. Mathers connected for another power-play marker at 8:34 to round out Peterborough's scoring.

Biggs got one back for the Generals with Oshawa's only power-play goal of the game at 12:30, but they were unable to get another puck past Andrew D'Agostini, who made 37 saves to earn the win.

The Petes chased starter Daniel Altshuller with three goals on 25 shots then beat Ken Appleby three times on just 11 shots.
