Hicketts scores winner as Royals beat Silvertips in OT
EVERETT, Wash. - Joe Hicketts scored 1:57 into overtime to give the Victoria Royals a 4-3 victory over the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.
On the game-winning goal Logan Nelson, who scored the tying goal late in regulation, fed the puck out front from behind the net. Hicketts, pinching from his defensive position, snapped the puck into the top corner to end the game.
Steven Hodges and Jack Walker also scored for Victoria (35-30-7), which overcame a 2-0 second-period deficit.
Michael Herrington, making his first-career start in goal, turned aside 36 shots to earn the win.
Manraj Hayer, Stathis Soumelidis and Brayden Low scored for Everett (24-40-7), which is now locked into the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
Austin Lotz made 34 saves in defeat.
Victoria went 0 for 3 on the power play while Everett failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.
