Holmberg scores twice as the Chiefs take 1-0 series lead

SPOKANE, Wash. - Mitch Holmberg scored twice as the Spokane Chiefs defeated the visiting Tri-City Americans 4-1 on Friday in Western Hockey League playoff action.

Blake Gal and Alessio Bertaggia also scored for the Chiefs, who lead the first-round matchup 1-0, while Brenden Kichton and Reid Gow each chipped in with two assists.

Brandon Carlo scored the lone goal for the Americans.

Eric Williams made 26 saves for the win as Troy Trembley stopped 28-of-32 shots in defeat.

Spokane went 1 for 2 on the power play while Tri-City failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday Mar. 23rd when the Chiefs host the Americans at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
