Edge Alberta team after losing Saturday

IF there was one single word that might best describe the Dauphin Kings -- especially in the last week or so -- it would be this:

Resilient.

Beaten by the Winnipeg Blues in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League championship last month, the Kings got up off the mat to finish first in the round robin of the Western Canada Cup, which they hosted over the last week.

And when they were dropped 5-4 by the Yorkton Terriers in Saturday night's championship final, the Kings still showed enough determination, drive and resilience to again shake off that crushing defeat less than a day later with a berth in the RBC Cup on the line.

The Kings edged the Spruce Grove Saints 4-3 in Sunday's RBC Cup berth game at Credit Union Place in Dauphin, rallying from a 3-1 third-period deficit with three goals in less than six minutes to punch their ticket to the Junior A National Championship in Vernon, B.C. from May 10-18.

Dauphin got goals from Dylan Butler, Aubrey Champman, Hudson Morrison and Chandler Irvin while Troy Martyniuk and Jordan Piccolino combined to stop 32 of 35 shots fired their way.

Scoring for Spruce Grove, the Alberta Junior Hockey League champs, were Tristan Sieben, Corey Chorneyko and Nathan Smith.
