Mathias Niederberger's 33 saves leads Colts to 3-1 win over Frontenacs

BARRIE, Ont. - Mathias Niederberger made 33 saves as the Barrie Colts defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 3-1 on Thursday in Ontario Hockey League playoff action.

Steven Beyers had a goal and an assist for Barrie, while Anthony Camara and Winnipeg Jets prospect Mark Scheifele also scored. The Colts now have a 1-0 lead in the Eastern Conference quarter-final.

Ryan Kujawinski replied for Kingston, which was playing its first post-season contest since 2011.

The Colts came in with the best power play in the regular season, while Kingston finished last on the penalty kill.

Barrie would take advantage, going 1 for 4 with the extra man. The Frontenacs finished the night at 0 for 7.

Mike Morrison turned aside 41 shots for Kingston.

Game 2 of the series is Saturday night in Barrie.
