OHL Roundup: Kerby Rychel's five points lead Spitfires over Otters 8-5

Kerby Rychel scored once and added four assists Thursday as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Erie Otters 8-5 in the Ontario Hockey League.

Alex Aleardi and Ben Johnson added two goals each for the Spitfires (23-28-7), while Alexander Khokhlachev, Remy Giftopoulos and Graeme Brown also scored.

J.P. Labardo, with two, Nick Betz, Dane Fox and Stephen Harper replied for the Otters (17-34-8).

Khokhlachev also had three assists for a four-point night, while Trevor Murphy and Josh Ho-Sang both chipped in with a pair of assists apiece for Windsor.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Mississauga 8, Niagara 2; Sault Ste. Marie 6, Sarnia 3; Peterborough 6, Oshawa 3; and Owen Sound 3, Barrie 2 (OT).

At Windsor, Ont., trailing 4-3 after 40 minutes, the Spitfires exploded for five goals with Johnson's two, Aleardi's second goal, Brown's first in the OHL and Rychel's team-leading 34th goal of the season into an empty net.

Brown scored the game-winner when he rifled a wrist shot off a pass from Khokhlachev while parked at the top of the left face-off circle.

Playing in just his 12th career game, Brown also added an assist and was named the game's first star.

Jordan Dekort made 29 saves to pick up the win in goal, while Devin Williams made 39 stops in defeat.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Spitfires.

Steelheads 8, IceDogs 2

At St. Catharines, Ont., Kristoff Kontos, Andrew Goldberg and Riley Brace each scored twice as Mississauga (25-27-5) thumped Niagara (26-28-4).

Greyhounds 6, Sarnia 3

At Sarnia, Ont., Nick Cousins scored a hat trick as Sault Ste. Marie (32-21-4) downed the Sting (32-24-3).

Petes 6, Generals 3

At Peterborough, Ont., Derek Mathers had two goals and two assists to lead the Petes (21-30-7) past Oshawa (33-21-4).

Attack 3, Colts 2 (OT)

At Barrie, Ont., Kurtis Gabriel scored in overtime as Owen Sound (37-17-4) edged the Colts (36-18-4).
