QMJHL Roundup: Laplante helps P.E.I. Rocket drop Saint John Sea Dogs 3-2

SAINT JOHN, N.B. - Yan Pavel Laplante scored with under five minutes left to play as the P.E.I. Rocket dropped the Saint John Sea Dogs 3-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Wednesday.

Alex Micallef and Matej Beran also scored for the Rocket (36-23-4). Antoine Bibeau stopped 29 of 31 shots to earn the victory for P.E.I.

Stephen Anderson had a goal and an assist and Jakub Izacky added a single as the Sea Dogs dropped to 22-40-1. Sebastien Auger had 43 saves on 46 shots in the loss.

P.E.I take the first lead of the game at 14:31 on a marker by Beran.

Shots in the first were 17-7 in favour of the Rocket.

The Rocket extended their lead as Micallef had space at the point and wired a bullet past Auger.

The Sea Dogs got their first real goal of the game at 7:21 when Villemaire fired a shot on Bibeau and Izacky picked up the rebound for his 20th goal of the season.

The Sea Dogs scored to tie the game up 2-2 with only 18.2 seconds left on the clock in the second period. Villemaire got a shot off on Bibeau and another redbound caromed off to Anderson, who waited out Bibeau and slid the puck in.

Laplante put the game into the hands of the Rocket with a goal at 15:24.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Cape Breton 4 Moncton 3 (OT): Acadie-Bathurst 8 Halifax 7 (OT); Blainville-Boisbriand 6 Chicoutimi 2; Rimouski 6 Drummondville 4; Sherbrooke 6 Rouyn-Noranda 3; Victoriaville 4 Gatineau 1; and Titan 8 Mooseheads 7 (OT).

At Acadie-Bathurst, Que., Matthew Bissonnette scored in overtime as the Titan beat Halifax in a high-scoring game.

At Cape Breton, N.B., Raphael Corriveau netted the overtime-winner and added two assists as Moncton held off the Wildcats.

At Blainville-Boisbriand, Que., Tommy Giroux scored his 31st goal of the season and added two assists as the Armada got by Chicoutimi.

Oceanic 6 Voltigeurs 4

At Drummondville, Que., Peter Trainor scored his 43rd and 44th goals of the season to power Rimouski past the Voltigeurs.

Tigres 4 Olympiques 1

At Victoriaville, Que., Philippe Halley scored twice as the Tigres scored four straight goals to overwhelm Gatineau.

Phoenix 6 Huskies 3

At Sherbrooke, Que., Jacob Gervais-Chouinard made 32 saves and Jean-Christophe Laflamme registered a hat trick and an assist as the Phoenix doubled Rouyn-Noranda.
