Rieder has goal, assist to lead Rangers to 3-2 win over visiting Wolves

KITCHENER, Ont. - Tobias Rieder had a goal and an assist to lead the Kitchener Rangers to a 3-2 win over the visiting Sudbury Wolves in Ontario Hockey League action.

Matt Puempel and Eric Ming also scored for the Rangers (34-17-8), who snapped a two-game losing skid. Evan McEneny chipped in with two assists.

Jacob Harris and Mathew Campagna replied for the Wolves (26-22-11), who suffered their fourth loss in five games.

Joel Vienneau stopped 23 of 25 shots against his former teammates for the win, while Franky Palazzese turned aside 29 of 32 shots in defeat in his return to Kitchener after being traded to Sudbury on Jan. 8.

Kitchener was 2-for-3 on the power play, while Sudbury was shut down in two opportunities with the man advantage.

Puempel opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 4:53 of the first period, snapping a rebound past Palazzese. Rieder increased the lead, again with the man advantage, ripping a slapshot off the far post and in.

Ming added a goal in the second period to make it 3-0, firing a deflected clearing pass by Palazzese.

Harris ruined Vienneau's shutout bid at 7:20 of the third period, converting Nicholas Baptiste's pass to the slot.

Campagna made things interesting with 1:48 remaining, skating into the slot untouched and wristing a shot past Vienneau's blocker, but the Wolves couldn't get the equalizer.
