Smith with three points as the Blazers defeat the Cougars
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - Colin Smith scored twice and set up one more as the Kamloops Blazers downed the host Prince George Cougars 4-1 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.
Smith now has 40 goals and 99 points in 65 games, which is good for third in WHL scoring behind the Portland Winterhawks' tandem of Brendan Leipsic and Nicolas Petan. Leipsic leads the league with 111 points while Petan has 109.
Joel Edmundson and Dylan Willick also scored for the Blazers (42-18-5), who won for the first time in three outings, and Kale Kessy chipped in with two assists.
Klarc Wilson scored the lone goal for the Cougars (18-37-8), who are winless in five games and sit five points behind the Everett Silvertips for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Cole Cheveldave made 26 saves for the win as Mac Engel stopped 29 shots in a losing cause.
Kamloops went 0 for 8 on the power play while Prince George scored once on six chances with the man advantage.
Six fighting majors and nine misconducts were handed out as the two clubs combined for 166 penalty minutes.
