Tanus scores short-handed and in shootout as Petes win 4-3 over Ottawa 67's
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Jonatan Tanus scored the Peterborough Petes' second short-handed goal of the third period to force overtime and got the winner in the shootout for a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa 67's in Ontario Hockey League play Thursday.
Nick Czinder and Nick Ritchie also scored for Peterborough (22-32-7).
Sean Monahan, John Urbanic and Taylor Fielding replied for Ottawa (15-41-5).
Ottawa scored the only goals of the first period. They sandwiched power-play markers by Monahan and Fielding around an even-strength goal by Urbanic to lead 3-0 after 20 minutes, despite being outshot 12-7 by the Petes.
Czinder finally got a puck past Clint Windsor at the 42 second mark of the second period, but no one was able to connect for the rest of the frame.
Ritchie pulled Peterborough within one when he buried a short-handed goal just before the midway point of the third. Tanus then connected while the Petes were a man short with just 1:01 to play in regulation time.
Neither team could score in overtime and Tanus was the only player to connect in the shootout.
