Highlight REEL: Moose 5 Marlies 1

WITH their best offensive performance of the season, the Moose exploded for three secondperiod goals Friday night and went on to spank the Toronto Marlies 5-1 before 7,592 fans at the MTS Centre.

It's the first time this season the Moose have exceeded four goals in the actual game and the first time since Oct. 16, 14 games ago, that they mustered more than two goals in a single outing. In the previous 10 games, after subtracting shootout goals, Manitoba had scored just eight times.

Moose goalie Cory Schneider, with 18 saves, improved his record to 7-3 and helped his team get back to .500 at 9-9-2.

FIRST PERIOD

The game isn't even started and Toronto's Jay Rosehill and Manitoba's Mark McCutcheon are off for misbehaving at the opening faceoff. During the four-on-four, Marty Murray pops home Eric Walsky's rebound and the Moose strike first. Ryan Hamilton gets credit for the Toronto goal later in the period, created by Tyler Bozak's good cross-crease feed.

Toronto 1 / Moose 1 SECOND PERIOD The floodgates are open for the Moose, who get goals from Marco Rosa (thanks to Viktor Stalberg's hideous giveaway), Darryl Bootland and Sergei Shirokov. After Moose goalie Schneider stops Stalberg's breakaway, the period ends with an awful, uncalled high check by Andre Deveaux on Moose defenceman Nathan McIver, who was engaged with another Marlies player for the puck.

Moose 4 / Toronto 1 THIRD PERIOD Moose defenceman Neil Petruic scores his first of the season midway through the period. Rosehill later skates 30 feet, leaves his feet and clobbers Manitoba's Matt McCue in the head, but is unpenalized. Not surprisingly, this causes an on ice-riot.

Game-breaker

With a goal and a big assist in the second period, Rosa is back to his early form and it is a big boost for the Moose. He's plus-four on the night, as is linemate Walsky.

Traffic warning

The start of tonight's rematch roughly coincides with the conclusion of the Santa Claus parade near the MTS Centre and several downtown routes will be blocked.

Free hot chocolate will be available to those who arrive early in the Portage Avenue concourse.

Still no power

Manitoba fails to score on the power play for a sixth straight game, now zip for 25, but it's the fourth time this season the team has won a game without an advantage goal.
