WINNIPEG - If you’re taking attendance at Manitoba Moose practice this season, chances are you’ve run out of paper or pens.
Today’s session at the MTS Centre required four different marks since the last Moose workout.

The team today released veteran winger Darryl Bootland after 12 games of his 25-game contract. Manitoba signed Bootland for a second go-round in early November, when it was desperate for experience and in the throes of some unprecedented injury and call-up woes.
Also today, veteran defenceman Lawrence Nycholat and winger Matt Pope were in full gear and in regular jerseys — not the often-seen red sweater to caution teammates about hitting them — as the team began its preparations for Friday and Saturday night’s games here against the Lake Erie Monsters.
Nycholat hasn’t played since early October, out with knee and shoulder injuries. His knee required surgery.
Pope hasn’t played since late October. In the ninth game of the season, he suffered a high-ankle sprain.
It appears both players may be available this weekend.
And absent today was captain Mike Keane, who’s in Denver for tonight’s pre-game ceremony welcoming him as the fifth member of the Colorado Avalanche Alumni Association. The Avs are bringing 10 former players into the association, each before different games this season.
Keane joined the Avalanche in 1995 and helped the team to its first Stanley Cup that season.
He was in Montreal earlier this month to join in the Montreal Canadiens’ celebration of their 100th anniversary.
