Jets looking healthier as they get set for Flyers
The Winnipeg Jets’ infirmary is a little less crowded this week.
The Jets will have defenceman Dustin Byfuglien back in their lineup Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers (7 p.m., TSNJets/TSN 1290), goaltender Ondrej Pavelec has beaten back the flu bug and Zach Bogosian, who has yet to suit up this year, is expected to be back patrolling the blueline later this week.
"Buff looks like a player for the game," said head coach Claude Noel. "Bogo… we’ll wait and see."
As to who starts in net, Pavelec or veteran Al Montoya – who was steady in shutting out the Ottawa Senators 1-0 last Saturday – Noel served up the usual ‘game-time decision’ answer.
"(Pavelec) was a lot better today, so we’ll take a look and see. I’m confident in both guys playing the game. We’ll see how (Pavelec) feels tomorrow. He felt good today and there’s no reason to think he won’t be better tomorrow."
Pavelec said he woke up around 3 a.m. following last Thursday’s loss to the Maple Leafs not feeling well and couldn’t shake it through the weekend. He did suit up as Montoya’s backup on Saturday, but wasn’t really able to eat anything until Sunday.
"I feel better," Pavelec said. "It surprised me a bit because I had the flu shot a couple weeks ago. I don’t know if it was from the food or something else. I’m happy it’s behind me and I can eat, finally."
The Jets, 5-5-1, will be looking to re-establish MTS Centre as a tough building for visitors. Winnipeg dropped a 3-2 decision to Toronto in its last home game and is just 3-2 through five games. The Flyers, 5-6-1 to start the season, are in action tonight in Toronto.
