Jonathan Toews will bring home hockey’s biggest prize later this week.
Toews, captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, is in Winnipeg taking part in The Players Cup’s Rumble at the Ridge today. But on Friday he’ll be touring the Stanley Cup around Winnipeg.
The Jonathan Toews Community Centre will host a public celebration on July 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. Toews also said he’ll be taking the Cup to the Children’s Hospital.
Toews arrived in Winnipeg on Sunday to prepare for The Players Cup and believes the arrival of the Stanley Cup will be the highlight of his summer. He won’t be touring it around as much as he did in July 2010 when he won it for the first time.
"It’ll be a little bit slower than the last time, I think. And there will be a few more moments to try and appreciate it and soak it in. It’ll be special for sure," he said.
Toews plans to cap off the Stanley Cup visit by taking it out to his cabin with some family and friends.
