Goalie gigs tough to find
INTERESTING bit from The Edmonton Journal: it hasn't been easy for North American-born goalies to find work overseas. Ondrej Pavelec, Pekka Rinne, Ilya Bryzgalov, Sergei Bobrovsky and Semyon Varlamov, among others, have landed gigs in Europe.
But stars like Marc-Andre Fleury, Mike Smith, Cory Schneider, Carey Price and Jimmy Howard -- all either Canadians or Americans -- have been shut out, so to speak.
"I haven't seen any North Americans," Oilers' netminder Devan Dubnyk told The Journal. "Look at the number of goalies still here (in North America). "It's not ideal for any of us."
So long, Alfie?
All this talk of a lost season could impact stars like Teemu Selanne and Daniel Alfredsson who, if the worst-case scenario unfolds, may have already played their last NHL games.
"If nothing happens, I could have played my last game," Alfredsson told the Ottawa Citizen. "That's fine with me. I'm not going to try and push here. I want a deal that's fair. And if that means we're not going to play because the owners don't want to negotiate fairly with us, then so be it and that's the way it is. Do I want to play? I love to play. I'm having a blast when I'm out there."
