NHL Lockout: Day 32

AHL opening weekend

There may well be 100 regular young NHLers playing in the AHL this season during the work stoppage, but not a one of them who was full-time -- not Ryan Nugent-Hopkins nor Jordan Eberle nor Alex Burmistrov nor Cody Hogdson -- yet ranks in the league's list of top 10 scorers through the first weekend. Cory Conacher of the Syracuse Crunch leads the scoring charge through two regular-season games with five points.

On the move

-- Tomas Kopecky of Florida signed with HK Dukla Trencin (Czech).

-- Sam Gagner of Edmonton signed with EC KAC (Austria).

-- Tyler Myers of Buffalo signed with EC KAC (Austria).

-- Alexei Emelin of Montreal signed with Ak Bars Kazan (KHL).

Monday In the KHL

-- Winnipeg Jets forward Alexei Ponikarovsky had an assist in Donbass Donetsk's 2-1 loss to Avangard. Just FYI, one-time Winnipeg Jets 1.0 prospect and former Manitoba Moose skater and defector Jaroslav Obsut is Ponikarovsky's teammate.

-- Jets centre Nik Antropov had a goal and an assist and Dustin Boyd had a goal as Barys Atsana blanked Dinamo Riga 5-0.

-- Evgeni Malkin's third goal of the season gave Metallurg Magnitogorsk a 3-2 win over Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.

-- Nail Yakupov now has five goals, scoring once in Neftekhimik's 3-2 shootout win over Lev Praha.

Kings blogger bolts

Rich Hammond, who wrote for the L.A. Kings' website as a reporter and commentator, has left the job to return to the newspaper industry, now working for the Orange County Register covering college sports. Hammond, technically also an employee of the NHL, left his post not coincidentally after reports that the league wanted at least one story removed after the lockout began, a story in which he quoted a Kings player. Hammond thanked the team in departure and made a point to say he'd never been censored or directed what to write in his three seasons on the job.
