Ovie sits another one out

Washington ace Alex Ovechkin missed his second straight game with a lower-body injury. The Capitals scratched the NHL's leading goal scorer for Friday night's game against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center. The Russian star, who has 35 goals, also missed Tuesday's game against Ottawa.

Prospal calls it a career

Veteran Czech forward Vinny Prospal, who had planned to join the Vancouver Canucks' AHL affiliate on a professional tryout contract, has instead decided to retire. Prospal was scheduled to join Utica this weekend but changed his mind. Prospal, who turns 39 on Feb. 17, had 255 goals and 765 points in 1,108 career NHL games.
