NHL Day 26

IS KANE ABLE?

Jets winger Evander Kane hasn't exactly lit up the KHL since joining Dinamo Minsk last week and Tuesday night's effort -- he was a minus-1, took one penalty and had just one shot on goal in just 14 minutes of ice time in a 2-1 OT loss to Dinamo Riga -- is becoming commonplace.

Over the weekend he was called out by the Minsk head coach, who said Kane was out of shape and not ready to play in the KHL. Kane is pointless through four games with a -4 rating.

PAVELEC STRUGGLING

Goaltender Ondrej Pavelec, who has been brutal to date with Bili Tygri Liberec in the Czech Extraliga, was pulled again in a 6-2 loss over the holiday weekend after surrendering four goals on 34 shots.

TUESDAY NIGHT

IN THE KHL

-- Alex Ponikarovsky of the Jets was held off the scoresheet as Donbass Donets k knocked off Severstal 4-1 in front of just 3,232 fans in Cherepovets.

-- Dynamo Moscow edged Lev Praha, featuring Zdeno Chara, 1-0 on a goal by Alex Ovechkin.

-- Winnipegger Nigel Dawes scored for Barys Astana Monday and is now tied for the KHL lead in goals with eight. Nik Antropov, a teammate of Dawes in the KHL, did not play.

ON THE MOVE

Notable NHL player movement, some rumoured, some confirmed:

-- Kyle Turris, Ottawa, Oulun Karpat (Finland)

-- Jussi Jokinen, Carolina (is leaving Karpat to return to North America)

-- Brandon Dubinsky, Columbus, Alaska Aces (ECHL)

-- Sergei Kostitsyn, Nashville, Avangard Omsk (KHL)

-- Stephane Robidas, Dallas, IFK Helsinki (Finland)

-- Anton Volchenkov, New Jersey, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (KHL)

-- Milan Jurcina, UFA, Pirati Chomutov (Czech Extraliga)

-- Henrik Zetterberg, Detroit, EV Zug (Switzerland)

-- New York Rangers star netminder Henrik Lundqvist has yet to commit to playing overseas, but last weekend Swedish Elite League team Frolunda pieced together the necessary financing to cover his insurance costs, estimated at $30,000 per month.

-- Columbus centre RJ Umberger is joining his alma mater, Ohio State, as volunteer coach during the lockout. Umberger spent three years with the Buckeyes, from 2000 to 2003.
