Lockout did wonders for Vanek:

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- If not for the NHL lockout, Buffalo Sabres forward Thomas Vanek would have missed an opportunity to return home to play in his native Austria. The time off and brief but sweet homecoming last fall did wonders for Vanek. He finds himself leading the league with 10 goals and 21 points.

Pain was too much for Spezza:

OTTAWA -- Although it may have cost him the season, Jason Spezza says it was the only option. The Ottawa Senators' 29-year-old centre admitted Friday he had no other choice. "It was really bad," he says of his pain after surgery for a herniated disc.
